CAREERONESTOP PORTAL

career_one_stop.jpgClient: U.S. Department of Labor and State of Minnesota

Summary Objective: The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration has developed three major tools for use in the workforce development system: America's Job Bank, a large database for job seekers and employers with nearly one million job postings and about half a million resumes; America's Career InfoNet, a comprehensive information library for informed career decisions; and America's Service Locator, a tool to locate public service offices and driving directions including one-stop centers. It needed a means to connect these separate services on different websites through one location on the Internet and also make available a wealth of resources for jobseekers, employers, students and workforce professionals.

Solution: The CareerOneStop portal

CareerOneStop was developed to serve as a comprehensive one-stop online resource for America's workforce. The portal provides users with seamless browsing experience and access to comprehensive career resources. XPAND was tasked with the development of the website using all phases of the System Development Life Cycle including project plan, collection and analyses of user requirements, website design, design of database, complete information architecture for the application, development, testing, deployment, and documentation as well as coordinating the redesign assigned to outside contractors for America’s Job Bank and America’s CareerInfoNet. The site’s powerful web-based content management tools require no programming skills on the part of the client and allow administration of comments/user feedback, a database driven ListServ application for News Room, dynamic home page content, and database driven FAQ/Glossary.
