CareerOneStop

CareerOneStop Portal, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor, was developed to serve as a comprehensive one-stop online resource for America's workforce. The portal provides users with access to diverse, comprehensive career resources through one seamless browser interface.

XPAND Corporation was tasked with the development of this website spanning all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including project plan; analyses of user requirements; design of database; testing; deployment; and documentation. XPAND successfully integrated a services-based architecture for the CareerOneStop system utilizing SOAP/XML and REST based Web services to facilitate data currency, data exchange, and data sharing. CareerOneStop provides and consumes Web services between CareerOneStop system and external project partners such as Direct Employers Association and the Occupational Information Network (O*Net).

CareerOneStop contains large volumes of career, occupation, industry and workforce related data. To better organize and leverage this data, XPAND implemented Endeca, an enterprise-wide search and indexing tool that reaches across all CareerOneStop assets to provide users a robust search platform to assist them in finding both static site content and database content from various sources. Search capabilities include thematic searches, which rank the keyword search results based on predefined weights assigned to the result sets.

A high volume, high availability Web portal, the CareerOneStop system has garnered impressive site utilization during the past year. Usage statistics indicate that during the 2012 calendar year, CareerOneStop received 258,548,717 page views and 20,131,256 visits. In addition, the site has received multiple national and state awards for its unique functions.
